How to choose the right Laptop Stand for you

Many of us are now working from home and whether this is new to you because of the COVID pandemic, or you have been doing it for years, you are probably spending a lot of time on your laptop and your Smartphone.

This may be great for convenience and for work productivity, but it does come with some serious health concerns. According to back specialists long periods spent hunched over a laptop can have a devastating effect upon posture and is a leading cause of neck and back pain. Phone use comes with similar concerns too.

The problem is that we don’t tend to notice any of this until it is too late.

So why are laptops so bad for posture?

It all comes down to the position of the device and your eye line. If your screen is lower than your eye level, you will position you head downwards so that you can focus on the screen. Although this does not feel uncomfortable at first, it causes a hunched posture that will cause your spine to contract and your neck and shoulder muscles to become stiff and locked into this bad position.

Although we don’t always realise it, using our mobile phones for long periods of time can cause the same issues.

Even if you don’t experience back and neck pain immediately, too much time spent in this hunched position may cause your posture to become stooped which can lead to future back problems and is also not a great look for anyone.

How to improve your laptop position

You have two choices. You can either lower your seat or raise your laptop but obviously raising your laptop is the easiest option for most people, especially if you don’t always work in the same location.

The ideal position of your laptop is that your eye level is set at around one third of the way down the screen. This enables your head to move properly and frees up your back and neck muscles too.

If you have never tried raising your laptop’s position, you will be amazed at how amazingly comfortable and liberating it can feel.

Luckily, you don’t have to resort to piling up books under your laptop in order to raise it to optimum height. The easy answer is to try a laptop stand.
